Jaipur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the Congress is a symbol of corruption, nepotism and appeasement — three evils preventing India from becoming a developed nation.
Addressing a public meeting in poll-bound Rajasthan’s Baran district, the prime minister said Congress leaders are unruly and the people of the state are suffering as the ruling party has handed them over to robbers, rioters and criminals.
“As long as three enemies of the country — corruption, nepotism and appeasement — are among us, it will be difficult to fulfil the resolution to make India a developed nation. The Congress is the biggest symbol of these three evils,” Modi told the gathering.
“Be it Congress MLAs or ministers, everyone is unruly and the public is suffering. The Congress has handed over the people of Rajasthan to robbers, rioters, tyrants and criminals,” he said.
“Today, even children in Rajasthan are saying ‘Gehlot ji, you won’t get votes’,” he added.
The prime minister also targeted the Congress over the law and order situation in Rajasthan, saying its ministers have been seen standing with those who committed atrocities against sisters and daughters.
The BJP’s priority is to ensure women’s welfare and safety, Modi said.
The morale of anti-social forces in Rajasthan is high due to Congress support, he said.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused the Congress party and the Ashok Gehlot government in Rajasthan of being “anti-backward class”.
Addressing a public meeting in poll-bound Rajasthan’s Khairthal in Alwar district, the senior BJP leader said the Congress in Rajasthan has worked to appease its vote bank.
“Congress party and Gehlot government are anti-backward class. For many years, the Congress party opposed the report of the Mandal Commission and the Congress party did not give constitutional recognition to the Backward Classes Commission,” Shah said.
He said it was the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre that gave constitutional recognition to the Backward Classes Commission.
Shah said the Modi government has given 27 per cent reservation to the backward classes in all education systems of the Centre.
Tuesday, 27 per cent of the ministers in the Modi government are from backward classes and the Centre has worked to advance the backward classes
The home minister said the Gehlot government is indulging in appeasement politics and working for its vote bank.
“Appeasement is at its peak in the state. Tailor Kanhaiya Lal was murdered in broad daylight, Section 144 was imposed during Hindu festivals, bulldozers ran on Ram Darbar and communal riots happened everywhere. The BJP governments do not let communal riots break out,” he said.
He urged the people to vote for the BJP’s double-engine government and ensured that it will make Rajasthan a riot-free state.
Referring to the alleged ‘red diary’, Shah said it contains all the misdeeds of the Gehlot government and details of corruption that took place in the state.
A government which is involved in corruption cannot do anything good for you, Shah asserted.
The red diary’ was displayed by sacked minister Rajendra Gudha in the Assembly in July, claiming it contained the details of financial misdeeds of the Congress government, including illegal transactions of Gehlot. The chief minister has denied Gudha’s allegations.
He also targeted the state government over the paper leak issue and said strict action will be taken against the corrupt if the BJP government came to power.
Voting for the Assembly elections in the state will be held on November 25 while the counting of votes will take place on December 3.
