Secretary-General of United Nations, Antonio Guterres has urged India and Pakistan to solve the Kashmir issue through dialogue, reports said today.

The spokesperson of the Secretary General has also dismissed claims that UN chief was being reluctant to address the Kashmir issue.

“I don’t brush it [Kashmir issue] off. I don’t think the Secretary General has been reluctant. He would underscore the need for the parties to find a peaceful solution [to Kashmir issue] through engagement and dialogue,” Stephane Dujarric said at a regular press briefing.

These remarks from him came while responding to the question of a reporter on Secretary-General’s response to the situation prevailing in Kashmir.

“I think I would refer you to what we have already said on the situation in Kashmir and I have nothing further to add to it,” Dujarric said.

The spokesperson has stressed that the UN chief was following the situation in Kashmir, reports said. “It is obviously an issue that he (Secretary General) is following…If we are able to say more, we shall be able to say more…I am not sure what coming to grip means. He is well aware of the issue,” Dujarric said responding to another question.
