Inter-College Seminar to celebrate World Philosophy Day

SRINAGAR: The Department of Philosophy, Amar Singh College Cluster University, Srinagar Thursday organized an Inter-College seminar on the theme ‘The Human of The Future’, to celebrate the World Philosophy Day, 2023, here.

The program commenced with the welcome address proposed by Prof. Tabasum Lone, Head Department of Philosophy. In her address Prof. Tabasum reflected on the importance of World Philosophy Day and also accentuated the importance of this year’s theme The Human of The Future.

Prof. Tabasum pointed out that by awakening minds to the exercise of thinking and the reasoned confrontation of opinions, philosophy helps to build a more tolerant, more respectful society and that shall be the determining force in moulding the human of the future.

The presidential address was delivered by Prof. (Dr) Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Principal Amar Singh College and Nodal Principal Kashmir Division colleges. He pointed out that Philosophy is an inspiring discipline as well as an everyday practice that can transform societies. By enabling to discover the diversity of the intellectual currents in the world, philosophy can go a long way in stimulating intercultural dialogue.

Prof. Ajaz contended that the awakening minds to the exercise of thinking and the reasoned confrontation of opinions can go a long way to build a more tolerant, more respectful society.

Immediately after the presidential address the seminar commenced and the students from seven participating colleges of the Kashmir division elaborated and exchanged their ideas about the human of the future.

The session was thought provoking and interesting for both the participants and the audience. Faisal Javaid, student of Amar Singh College was awarded the 1st prize followed by Asiya Bashir of Islamia College of Science & Commerce and Huzaifa Bashir, AAMD College Bemina, earned the 2nd& 3rd prize respectively.

Fazal Ilahi from Institute of Advanced Studies in Education and Prof. Abdul Wahid Bhat Head Department of History, Amar Singh College Were judges for the event. Both the judges were felicitated during a brief felicitation and prize distribution ceremony.

The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Shahnawaz Muntazir, Head Department of English.
