Srinagar: Aiming to encourage enrollment in the government schools, the school education department has started an initiative to distribute free school bags among the school going children at Kindergarten level.
The initiative has been taken under the centrally sponsored scheme ‘SamagraShiksha’ wherein the newly enrolled students in government schools are provided with school bags by the department.
To begin with, the department has started an initiative to distribute 2.50 lakh school bags among children in the first phase. The school bags have been already distributed among school children in Jammu.
An official said these specially designed bags have inbuilt desks for students as well. “These school bags have been approved by the ministry of human resource development (MHRD) for the year 2018-19,” he said.
