DSEK to provide free bags to children in govt schools
Move to distribute specially designed bags already started in Jammu
Srinagar: Aiming to encourage enrollment in the government schools, the school education department has started an initiative to distribute free school bags among the school going children at Kindergarten level.
The initiative has been taken under the centrally sponsored scheme ‘SamagraShiksha’ wherein the newly enrolled students in government schools are provided with school bags by the department.
To begin with, the department has started an initiative to distribute 2.50 lakh school bags among children in the first phase. The school bags have been already distributed among school children in Jammu.
An official said these specially designed bags have inbuilt desks for students as well. “These school bags have been approved by the ministry of human resource development (MHRD) for the year 2018-19,” he said.
The official said the initiative has been taken keeping in view the duration for which the students remain in classes.
“Children who sit for long hours in classes without desks develop poor posture and eye sight problems. These school bags have been designed to cater to the needs of the children and to prevent them from acquiring any health problems,” the official said.
He said the school bag has two compartments for keeping books, lunch box, a water bottle pouch and an extra pouch for keeping stationary.
“It is a lightweight bag with educational desk easy for students to carry and also use it at home,” the official said.
These school bags are supposed to be distributed among the students of first and second primary.
