Police arrests drug peddlers

Srinagar: Police arrested four drug peddlers across the valley and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said Tuesday.

He said that in Baramulla, a police party at a checkpoint established at Guage Crossing Kreeri, intercepted one person identified as Ishtiyaq Ahmad Wani @Jana son of Ghlam Mohammad resident of Waripora Bala. During search, 50 grams of contraband charas like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to PS Kreeri where he remains in custody.

In Sopore, a police party at a checkpoint established at Iqbal Market Sopore, apprehended two persons. On their search, contraband/psychotropic substances including 110 grams of charas like substance, 242 tablets/capsules of banned drugs and cash ₹35,000/- was recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Jahangir Ahmad Shah son of Ghulam Muhammad Shah resident of Neharpora Sopore and Owais Ahmad Shah son of Noor Muhammad Shah resident of Neharpora Sopore A/P Batsuma Dangiwacha Rafiabad.

Meanwhile, in Kulgam, a police party intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully. During search, 4.446 Kgs of Ganja like contraband substance concealed in a nylon bag was recovered from his procession. He has been identified as Mohammad Abass Shah son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Shah resident of KB Pora.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigation has been initiated.
