Police seizes illegally procured rice in Budgam, for held

Srinagar: Police in Budgam foiled a black-marketing attempt by seizing 800 Kgs of rice meant for government ration depots and arrested the accused persons involved in the commission of crime, a police spokesman said Friday.

He said that a police party at a checkpoint established at Arath Crossing, intercepted a vehicle (load carrier) bearing Chassis Number BBXWRC66797 with three persons on board. They have been identified as Nisar Ahmad Lone son of Abdl Rashid Lone, Abdl Qayoom Bhat son of Sonaullah Bhat, both residents of Singhpora Pattan and Abdul Majid Wani son of Ghulam Rasool Wani resident of Arath Budgam.

During search, Police party recovered 16 sacks containing 50 Kg of rice each. During preliminary questioning, it surfaced that they had bought the rice from a fair Shop at Arath which is run by Ghlam Nabi Wani son of Ghulam Rasool Wani resident of Arath Budgam. All the four accused persons have been arrested and the vehicle used in commission of crime has also been seized.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 41/2024 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Budgam and investigation has been initiated, the spokesman added.
