Pulwama: The residents of  Eid Gah colony area of Gudoora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are up in arms against the Power Development Department (PDD) for its failure in upgrading power infrastructure in the area.

The residents said the a transformer has been installed in Eid Gah Mohalla some 15 years back and since then the population of the area has increased but power infrastructure hasn’t been upgraded.

They said this mohalla is spread  over 1.5 kms with around 40 households and a single transformer isn’t enough to cater to the whole area.

They added that authorities are resorting to frequent hike in power bills which has added to the misery of the people.

“Ironically, no step is being taken to upgrade power infrastructure in the area,” the residents alleged.

“Despite increasing monthly tariff, the lines are still connected through trees in the area,” said Mushtaq Ahmad, a local resident.

He said there is need to install new poles and transformer in the area so that they can get scheduled power supply with good voltage.

The locals said that the residents who are living far off from the transformer are getting supply with very low voltage.

They said these issues were brought to the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.

They requested the PDD authorities to look into the matter at an earliest so that they can heave a sigh of relief.

Meanwhile, a local DDC member Abdl Aziz while acknowledging the problems of the area said that the area will be covered for infrastructure improvement in the coming fiscal year.
