Illegal extraction of minerals: Police seizes three vehicles, arrests one person in Kulgam

Srinagar: Continuing its drive against persons involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, police arrested one person and seized three vehicles in Kulgam, a police spokesman said Wednesday.

He said that a police party during patrolling along the banks of river Sandran found some vehicles engaged in illegal mining, on noticing police party, two persons (tipper drivers) managed to flee from the spot and left their vehicles behind.

However, one person (driver of JCB) identified as Asif Ahmad Shah son of Bashir Ahmad Shah resident of Sangran was arrested. Besides, three vehicles including (02 Tippers and 01 JCB) involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals were also seized on spot, the spokesman added.

In this regard, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at Police Station Qazigund and further investigation have been initiated, he said.
