Anantnag: The residents of Khayar village in Seer hamlet of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district have complained about lack of availability of potable water in the area.

The locals said that for the past several years, they are without drinking water facility in the area due to which they are facing immense hardships.

They said that in absence of drinking water facility in the area, they rely on hand pumps for their daily use of potable water but the water drawn from hand pumps is contaminated and not fit for se.

Ghulam Rasool, a local resident said that a pipeline is being laid through the village to other villages but this area is being ignored due to unknown reasons.

He said that locals won’t allow authorities to lay pipeline to other villages until they won’t provide water supply to the village.

Meanwhile, locals said that they have even brought this issue into the notice of higher ups several times but except assurances nothing has been offered to the public.

“Presently, we are using water drawn from hand pumps which is highly contaminated,” they said, adding, despite informing higher ups about our plights on daily basis, no attention is being provided towards us, they added.

“We have been pleading with the officials of the concerned department to solve our problems but to no avail,” the locals added further.
