Police arrests three gamblers in Baramulla

Srinagar: Police have arrested three gamblers in Baramulla and seized stake money from their possession, a police spokesman said Friday.

He said that acting on specific information regarding gambling activities at Bandi Balla forests, a police party raided the specific spot and arrested the three gamblers who tried to flee from the spot.

They have been identified as Maqsood Ahmad Beigh son of Saifullah Beigh resident of Sultanpora, Abdul Hameed Ganie son of Ghulam Qadir resident of Rajpora and Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh son of Ghulam Hassan resident of Dudbugh Chandoosa. However, one of the gamblers identified as Abdul Majeed Sheikh son of Abdul Jabbar Sheikh resident of Dudbugh managed to flee from the spot and efforts are on to nab the accused.

Officers have seized stake money of ₹13,140/- and playing cards from their possession. They have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody.

Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Chandoosa and investigation has been initiated, the spokesman added.
