CBC organises awareness programme under Swachhta Action Plan

Budgam: The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India on Tuesday organised a one day Integrated Communication and Outreach Program (ICOP) on Swachhata Action Plan (SAP) in Budgam. The awareness programme was organised by CBC’s Field Office Anantnag at the Shiekh-Ul-Alam Hall.

The outreach programme was organised for mobilisation and mass awareness regarding the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA).

Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, President Municipal Council, Budgam (MCB) while addressing a gathering of prominent citizens, officers and field staff of CBC, MCB and Department of Forests and Ecology, detailed out various initiatives undertaken by the MCB under Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM). He called for people’s active participation and support in ensuring the cleanliness of towns and villages. He said SBM is a landmark initiative by the Government of India driven by community participation for achieving Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of a Clean India.

Field Publicity Officer, CBC Shahid Mohammad Lone informed the participants about the objective of the awareness programme. He said that people need to be educated on how to handle different types of domestic wastes. He said that in house treatment of certain food wastes and segregation at the source will largely reduce the burden on the civic bodies and also benefit the households.

He said people should religiously avoid single use plastics and turn to more durable and eco friendly alternatives. Sh. Lone said that awareness campaigns serve the purpose of sensitising the people but the onus to bring about the changes at the grassroots level is on the people especially the youth. He said every change has to come at an individual level as envisioned in SBA.

Others who addressed the gathering included Professor Ghulam Mohammad Parwana, Neesa Imtiyaz, Forest Range Officer and Ambreena, In-charge Sanitation Officer, MCB. Speakers highlighted various issues related to the implementation of SBM and also called for change in the behaviour of the people towards sanitation.

Swachhata Pledge was also taken by the participants to show their commitment towards cleanliness. A signature campaign and a cleanliness rally were also taken out by participants.
