Chandigarh: The Border Security Force opened fire after noticing suspicious movement along the international border in Punjab’s Pathankot district, said an official on Saturday.

The movement of two suspects from Pakistan was spotted on Friday evening, he said, adding that the suspects were captured at the thermal camera of the BSF.

The BSF troops at Paharipur post in Pathankot fired seven rounds, and hence the two suspects fled back towards the Pakistan side, the official said.

A thorough search operation was also conducted on Saturday but nothing was found, he added.

Meanwhile, BSF troops recovered a cartoon character-shaped balloon which entered the Indian territory from Pakistan’s side, officials said.

The balloon was found near Bahadur Ke border outpost in Guruharsahai by troops of the Border Security Force’s 160 battalion, they said.

According to the officials, a Pakistani currency note of rupees 10 and a piece of paper with a mobile number written on it were found attached to the balloon.

An investigation into the matter is underway.

Troopers also shot down a drone that entered from Pakistan in Punjab’s Amritsar district, officials said.

The troops fired at the drone after they noticed it sneaking into the Indian territory near Daoke village, 34 km southwest of Amritsar city, on Friday evening, the BSF said.

During the search operation, the BSF recovered a Quadcopter DJI Matrice 300 RTK (Chinese drone) in a partially-damaged condition, according to officials.
