Srinagar: Gurpurab, the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, was on Tuesday celebrated with religious fervor and zeal across Jammu and Kashmir.

Reports said that the main function was held at Gurdwara Chatipadshahi at Rainawari here in Srinagar.

Hundreds of Sikhs from across Kashmir visited the Gurdwara to join special prayers, they said.

Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, was born on Puranmashi of Kattak in 1469, according to the Vikram Samvat calendar in Rai-Bhoi-di Talwandi in the present Shekhupura District of Pakistan, now Nankana Sahib.

Special ‘langar’ were also organized for the devotees in Gurdwaras. Similar celebrations were also held in other local Gurdwaras including Jawahar Nagar, Allochibagh, Barzulla, Tral, Rangreth, Pattan and Baramulla, Indira Nagar and others.

Gurdwaras were beautifully decorated to mark the occasion. The Sikh community had also illuminated their respective houses during the evening. (KNO)
