Two-days National Conference concludes at GDC Anantnag

Anantnag: The two-days National Conference on Science Popularization, Innovation and Extension concluded at Government Degree College Anantnag.

The conference was organised by the Department of Zoology in collaboration with Debate & Seminar Committee, Government Degree College, Anantnag and was sponsored and funded by JK Science Technology & Innovation Council, Department of Science & Technology, J&K (UT).

According to a statement issued here, the aim of the National Conference was to develop scientific temperament, provide community members with the ability to make informed decisions and encourage scientific thinking.

The conference provided aspiring scientists, scholars, faculty members and students with a platform to explore the principles of science and innovation, as well as their practical applications.

“This programme also bolstered the NEP-2020 initiative to popularize science and technology in colleges, encourage aspiring scientists to assume leadership roles in science and technology for the benefit of society as a whole, and improve the culture of collegiate research through motivational science speeches and hands-on instructions,” the statement reads.

The National Conference kick-started with the inaugural session on 2nd Nov. 2022 in which Dr. Altaf Bhat, Director CIRI, University of Kashmir and Dr. Muktar Khanday, Director (South Campus) University of Kashmir were the chief guests.

The Principal GDC Anantnag Prof. Muzafar Ahmad Bhat in his inaugural remarks highlighted the importance of Science Popularization in the current scenario and impressed upon the youth to take science as career option for inclusive development.

He further appreciated the efforts made by the JK Science Technology & Innovation Council for promoting science and innovation in higher education.

The highlights of the conference were presented by the co-convener and organising secretary, Dr Ummer Rashid Zargar from Department of Zoology.

The two important sessions conducted on the Day 1 included Plenary session and ‘Meet Our Innovators session’.

In the first plenary session, Dr. Altaf Bhat presented his motivational science talk by explaining some exciting aspects of biological and molecular science.

In the second session of Day 1, innovators of J&K (UT) demonstrated their innovation which was followed by ideation programme presented by Dr. Ummer Rashid Zargar to select best and creative ideas from the idea holders.

On the second day, three technical sessions were conducted which covered Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Material science, Environmental Science, Arts and Humanities.

Later, ‘Workable Science Exhibition’ was held in which students from schools and colleges of South Kashmir participated.

The 2-Days National Conference finally ended with scintillating valedictory function.

The best achievers of the conference were felicitated with mementoes and certificates under different categories.

The Conference concluded with the remark by the Principal GDC Anantnag who said that the students and faculty should be motivated towards science and innovation through creation of an innovation ecosystem in the colleges.

The principal appreciated Head Department of Zoology and organising secretary of 2-Days National Conference, Dr. Sabzar Ahmad Dar for organising this event.
