Five drug peddlers arrested in Pulwama, Budgam: Police

Srinagar: Police have arrested five peddlers in Pulwama and Budgam districts and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said on Saturday.

In Pulwama, a Police Party from Police Station Kakapora during a routine checkpoint established at Kandizal crossing intercepted a vehicle (Santro) bearing registration No. JK01N-4285 with three persons on board.

“During the search, 5.5Kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered from the vehicle and all the three drug peddlers were arrested on the spot,” the spokesman said.

The Police have identified the arrested as John Mohammad Wani son of Abdul Gani Wani resident of Loolipora Nehama Kakapora, Tahir Ahmad Malik son of Ghulam Mohammad Malik and Tajamul Hussain son of Mohammad Ibrahim, both residents of Balhama Srinagar.

Similarly, the Police Station Kakapora has arrested one Mudasir Ahmad Bhat son of Mohammad Shafi Bhat resident of Kadlabal Kakapora after it surfaced that the accused was indulging in drug peddling and has hoarded a large quantity of psychotropic substance in his residential house.

“Accordingly, police raided the said location and during the search, 15 bottles of Codeine were recovered. The accused person was also arrested on the spot,” the police spokesman said.

He said a police party of Police Post Hardipanzo Beerwah during a routine checkpoint near Qamiru crossing intercepted a suspicious person.

“The accused tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully. During the search, about 1.2Kgs of Charas-like substance was recovered from his possession,” the spokesman said.

The arrested person was identified as Mohammad Maqbool Malik @ Sahil son of Ghulam Nabi Malik resident of Waragam Budgam.

“All the arrested drug peddlers have been shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody. Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigation has been initiated as well,” he said.
