Extensive SVEEP outreach programme held across Shopian

SHOPIAN: The District Election Office Shopian on Tuesday conducted day-long outreach programmes on Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) throughout the Assembly Constituency 37-Shopian to sensitize and aware young and eligible voters.
The district SVEEP team headed by Dy.DEO, Jahanger Ahmad visited Fruit Mandi Shopian and addressed a number of gatherings.
The Deputy DEO educated the electors regarding procedure relating to registration of name in Electoral Roll, correction of their existing particulars in Electoral Roll and other related issues. A large number of issues were resolved on spot.
Election Naib Tehsildar addressed the gathering and spoke on the significance of electoral registration and effective participation through mass awareness programmes across the district.
He also discussed the schedule issued by the Chief Electoral Officer, J&K, regarding the special summary revision which happened after almost four years and started on September 15 of 2022.
He said filing objections and claims can be done up to October 25, 2022.
The disposal of claims and objections shall take place by 10 November, 2022 and the final draft of electoral rolls shall be published on 25 November, 2022.
The public was informed about the details of the local BLO’s and various forms were distributed among the business community.
It was also informed that besides filling physical forms, registration can be done through Voter helpline app and through nvsp portal.
Later, the SVEEP team visited the different apple orchards and held one to one interaction with the fruit growers and labourers working in the plucking and packaging of apples.
The focus of the District Election office Shopian remained on the registration of New Voters, Improving Gender ratio, Removal of multiple entries; deletion of deceased/shifted names; correction of entries 100 percent coverage of PwD’s and their mapping with the Polling Station and identification and mapping of prospective voters.
Under the Common Outreach Activities, SVEEP Specific activities based on the situation analysis were carried out and different types of Forms viz. 6,6B, 7, and 8 were made available at all the prominent places.
Special registration camps on need basis and dedicated camps catering to specific target groups are also being held at various locations. Regional and/or local icons are being engaged for promoting SSR 2022 through social media and public appeals.
The programme concluded with the address of Dy.DEO to the large gathering of young sportspersons at Balapur cricket stadium where the participants were briefed about the electoral and educational value of revising electoral rolls.
