‘Save Hokersar-Save Srinagar’: Cleanliness drive in and around Hokersar continues

SRINAGAR: As part of ongoing ‘Save Hokersar-Save Srinagar’ campaign being held under the banner ‘TAWAZUN’ and launched by the Department of Wildlife Protection J&K Government, Wetlands Division Kashmir, the Range Officer Lakes ( Hokesar), Sajid Farooq Tuesday flagged-off a cleanliness drive in and around Hokersar Wetland Conservation Reserve (WCR), here.
Safai-karamcharis of Municipal Committees of Srinagar and Budgam, Range Officer, Lakes along with his field staff, Students of N.I.T Soibugh/ Boys Higher Secondary School Soibugh,different N.G.O’s, volunteers, Panchayat members, Forest Protection Force personnel of K-01/K-03 and representatives of different stake holding departments participated.
During the drive solid waste of about 3 to 4 trucks of load were collected from Churpora, Guthpora of Budgam District and surroundings of Jamia Masjid Zainakoot of Srinagar District and was then accordingly disposed-off, which involved mass efforts of 200 persons.
At the end of today’s event, Range Officer Lakes (Hokersar) thanked the participants and highlighted the role of the target groups for conservation of Wetlands as unique ecosystem for our future and their significance in flood mitigation.
It is worth mentioning here that this initiative is a joint collaboration of Department of Wildlife Protection J&K Government, Wetlands Division Kashmir with stake holding departments, civil society groups, N.G.O’s and Educational institutions.
