Encounter breaks out in Verinag in south Kashmir

Anantnag, Dec 29: An encounter broke out between security forces and militants in Nowgam village of Verinag area in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said Wednesday.
They said that a joint of team of police, Army and CRPF after receiving information about the presence of militants launched a search operation in the area.
“As the joint team of forces intensified searches towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the party, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter,” they said.
The exchange of fire is going on in the area and two to three militants are believed to be trapped in the area, the officials added.
Meanwhile, a tweet by police said that one police personnel suffered injuries during the initial firing.
“The injured cop has been shifted to a hospital,” the officials added.
