Sins can ruin our life and hereafter

All Praise is due to Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’aala) and Peace and salutations shower on our beloved Prophet (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam), the seal of Prophet-hood.
It is well known that Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’aala) made us the best of creations. The question arises: how can we be the best of creations when there are other creations that never commit sins such as the Angels. Be it known, the scholars of Deen have given a beautiful reason for this fact.
We have been entitled ‘Ashraful-Makhlooqaat’ (Best of Creations) because of those Modest and blessed people who have avoided sins in their pure lives, such as the prophets, their companions and other great pious Muslims.
The reason that we are the optimum creation is because Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’aala) gave us the control to do good deeds as well as commit sins. Alhamdu-Lillah, we put the sins aside and perform righteous deeds.
We can take the example of a very thirsty person who has been given a glass of water in the middle of a desert where no other forms of quenching the thirst is available. He has been ordered not to drink from it. An obedient person is he who avoids the water in this condition. Now if he has been given a glass with no water in it and has been ordered not to drink from it, it is not a great achievement and accomplishment if he doesn’t drink from it because the means is not present.
In the same way Angels and other specific creations have been created to do Zhikr. The act of committing sins has not been engendered in them. So it is not a great accomplishment if they never commit sins. We are like the person with the water, the person who gave the water and ordered us is like the creator, the desert is like this world and the water is sins. Like in the desert with a glass of cool water is this world full of temptations. Insha-Allah, by avoiding the water, it will bring us closer to Jannah.
Nowadays, we have been indulged in so many sins that we have started to assume them as normal. Astaghfirullah.
We have started to believe that even the lowest of sins have become hard to get rid of. This is indeed not the case. The best and easiest way of getting rid of sins is to increase good deeds.
Take the example of a room. It is totally dark. Now to get rid of the darkness, you have to switch on the lights. You cannot take the darkness and throw it out. Therefore, the example of the empty room is us, the darkness is bad deeds, the brightness is good deeds and the switch is our options and desires.
Our beloved prophet (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam) said, “Every son of Aadam (‘Alaihis Salam) commits sins, and the best sinner is the one who repents.”
Many questions may arise here. Firstly it should be known whether the prophets are included in this. Basically, they are not included in this.
We are indulged in sins in the breeze of the day and the coolness of the nights. Remember, the best amongst us is the one who regrets what they committed and repents upon it.
We are the best Ummat. We are truly blessed with the seal of Prophethood as our Nabi and Rasool (Prophet and Messenger). Many Ahaadeeth states that our dear Prophet (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam) will intercede for us on the day of judgement.
On the other hand there are narrations available in which particular people are deprived of this. Our Prophet (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam) said, “Every person of my Ummat will be forgiven except the open oppressors.” Committing sins openly means to commit them in public, to commit them continuously or not feeling guilty or ashamed of committing them.
How unlucky, how poor and how will these peoples conditions be on the great day?
My brothers! No sin should be taken as small. The terms ‘Minor sins’ and ‘Major sins’ are only in comparison with one another, but in reality all sins are major. For example Kufr is Major compared to Lying and Lying is Major compared to gossiping in the Masjid. No one will say Lying is small or Gossiping in the Masjid is small.
Hakeemul Ummat Hadhrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (Rahimahullah) writes: “Take the example for differentiating Major from Minor. The Sky and the Earth is tiny in comparison with the throne of Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’aala). But this does not mean that the sky and the Earth is small.”
He also writes: “A spark can be a cause for burning down an entire building. An ember can also do the same. If you were asked, which one do you prefer? You would without hesitating answer none.”
Avoiding sins holds countless benefits. Avoiding sins will:-give you control over desires, encourage you to do good deeds, keep the angels closer to you, create a stronger relationship between you and Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’aala), give a better memory, help communicate and get messages across in Da’wah and propagation.
There are many more benefits which we have no knowledge of. No one on the surface of this Earth including Kuffaar believe that sins are good for you and that they benefit. Infact we including Kuffaar believe to such an extent that not only do they affect in the hereafter but they (sins) also affect this world. Why then do we find them so attractive and difficult to abandon.
There is not a single person on the face of this Earth who wishes the worst for himself. Each and every one of us wishes for the best for himself. How is the best i.e. Hidaayah (Guidance) possible to penetrate us when we are indulged in so many sins.
Our noble prophet (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam) said that when a person does a sin, a black spot is placed on his heart. This spot can only be removed through Tawbah (repentance) or a good deed. When he continuously remains indulged in sins, the black spots cover the entire heart. At this point the person does not feel shame in the sins he commits. This is the quality of the Kuffaar (Non-Muslims). How can we be the same as them? Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’aala) has named them Najis (Impure) and the Mu-min (Believer) is pure. Purity and impurity cannot mix. At this stage Hidaayah cannot enter such a person. Indeed his life is doomed in this world and the hereafter is also lost.
Dear readers! Indeed each one of us intends success in both lives. Remember, the second life depends on this life. This life will end, the hereafter will not. We have to sacrifice the first to earn the best of the second. This life is indeed not hard. We have made it difficult and hard by following our desires. Once on the straight path, the wrong ways and sins will perceive ferocious and truculent. If we waste the chance in this world and not leave sins, both lives are ruined.
Brothers and sisters in Islam! Fear Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’aala), soon he will have to be faced. By leaving sins, Insha-Allah we shall not find it hard to face him and good deeds will become easy on us and By Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’aala), we shall start to see the bounties of Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’aala) in this world.
May Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’aala) give us the true understanding of the dangers of sins and may He save us from all sins. May Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’aala) give us success in this world and save us from the fire of Hell in the hereafter…….Aameen.
