Pulwama: The dried and decaying walnut trees in the premises of Aripal high School in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are posing a threat to teachers and students.
Students and teachers at the school said that due to winds, the branches of the dried walnut trees keep falling which can prove fatal at times.
“The administration must look into the matter and order cutting down of the decayed walnut trees at an earliest,” said a teacher.
“There is always the fear that children may face any injury by the falling branches of dried trees due to winds. The parents as well as teachers always remain worried about the safety of the children,” he said.
“Since spring season is approaching fast there are cent percent chances that fast winds can blow and this can result in the branches falling off the trees. This has happened in the past as well but fortunately no major mishap was reported as every time the students escaped by sheer luck,” said a student who is studying at the school.
The students and the teachers have collectively asked the administration to take the issue seriously and order cutting down of the trees at an earliest.
Ironically, the teachers at the schools alleged that they have brought the issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times, but to avail.
They demanded that administration must take the issue seriously as it concerns about the well being of hundreds of students.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Tral, Shabir Ahmad Raina when contacted said that the school education department must refer the issue to the administration according to the rules and we can later take a decision.
He said that the well being of students and the teachers is of paramount importance to us all.
