Police solves Bemina ATM theft case, accused bank guard arrested

Srinagar: Police on Friday claimed to have solved an ATM theft case in Srinagar by arresting the accused, saying that the stolen cash has also been recovered.
A police spokesman said that on 27 November Branch Manager J&K Bank Khumani Chowk Bemina Srinagar reported that cash amount of Rs 9,06,400/- (Rupees Nine Lakh Six Thousand and Four Hundred only) is missing from ATM Machine Khumani Chowk.
On receipt of the written complaint of the Manager, a case under FIR number 258/2020 under section 380 IPC was registered in PS Parimpora and investigation taken up, police said, adding that during the course of investigation, the scene of crime was minutely examined, it was found that ATM Machine was locked as usual without any mark of damage/violence to it.
“During preliminary investigation, it surfaced that cash of the ATM Machine has been stolen by using the code of the machine, which raised suspicion that the theft has been carried out by the person having knowledge of the affairs of the bank code and other procedures related to opening and closing of ATM,” police spokesman said.
Police further stated that during investigation, all the persons having acquaintance have been put to the sustained questioning and finally one person working as bank security guard in the said bank namely Javaid Ahmad Malla, son of Ghulam Hassan Malla of Khumani Chowk Bemina Srinagar was zeroed down and put to sustained questioning.
“During questioning, he confessed to the crime and on his disclosure a cash of Rs 8,90,600/- ( Eight Lakh Ninety Thousand and Six Hundred Only) has been recovered from the attic of the bank building. The accused has been arrested in the instant case,” police said.
The case has been worked out by Srinagar Police under the supervision of SP West Shahzad Salaria. The team of West Zone Police comprising of ESU West, SDPO West Muzaffer Jan, SHO PS Parimpora Insp Zaffer Iqbal and DO Bemina SI Sheikh Aadil played a vital role during the investigation of the case, police said.
