Open Kargil-Skardu road, demand speakers at round table conference

LAHDC will take up issue seriously at all platforms: CEC

Kargil: In a wake of Kartarpur Corridor Opening Ceremony, a round table conference was on Wednesday organised by People’s Forum for Peace across LOC in collaboration with Ladakh Autonomous Hill development Council (LAHDC) at conference hall in TFC Kargil.
During the conference, various speakers, intellectuals and representatives of influential religious organizations of Kargil Anjuman Jamiyat Ullama and Imam Khomeni Memorial Trust Kargil expressed their views regarding the importance of the opening of Kargil Skardu and Turtuk Khapolu roads in Ladakh region.
The speakers highlighted the various problems related to divided families on both side of the LOC who were yearning to meet their relatives for last 70 years.
During the conference, it has been revealed that there are more than 12,000 divided families living in Ladakh region. The speakers suggested that LAHDC should take some initiatives to collect data of these divided families and should make it authentic.
They further suggested that LAHDC should approach the Human Rights Organizations to aware them about this humanitarian crisis in Ladakh and Baltistan region.
General Secretary of religious organization IKMT Kargil, Haji Mohammad Hussain extended their full support for the cause and revealed that the organization has taken this issue several times at various platforms.
Talking about the importance of this route, he said that opening of this route not only help in meeting the divided families but also has a lot of potential in terms of business particularly related to Tourism.
President Anjuman Jamiyat Ullama Kargil, Sheikh Nazir Mehdi Mohamamdi extending its support to the cause said that only documents and conferences will not help in opening this important route but we should move forward and take some serious steps.
Referring to the turmoil in Kashmir and Punjab, he said that we are being deprived by the Government because they know that we are peaceful and don’t believe in violence.
Meanwhile, threatening the government, he said that “if the government would not take some concrete initiatives regarding Kargil Skardu road than we would be compelled to march towards the LoC and will continue the protest till the demand is fulfilled.”
Chief Guest of the occasion was Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC Kargil, Feroz Ahmad Khan.
Khan while concluding the programme said that LAHDC will support the cause and will take up the issue at National Level in forth coming days.
He also said that LAHDC will organize a press conference at Delhi to aware the people about this great human unseen tragedy.
Appreciating the initiative of ‘People’s Forum for Peace across LoC’, Khan said that he will help the organization to document all these issues and its realities.
