Even PHC proves a dream in Shopian’s model village
Shopian: While as the development has remained war cry for the succeeded regimes during the elections in the Valley, the development in the State especially in villages is still a distant dream.
Manloo village, barely six kilometres away from main town Shopian is glaring example of the hoax and the tall claims of the successive regimes so far as the populace is even being deprived of Primary Health Centre (PHC), despite the village being labeled as a model village.
Locals told ‘Kashmir Vision’ that this village has been sanctioned as model village but it seems that the order was implemented only on papers as no Primary Health Centre (PHC) has been established here, thus forcing the residents to rely on an outdated sub-centre.
Aaqib Ahmad, a local said that they rely on district hospital for even minor ailments, saying that this mountainous village is suffering a lot as there is no proper public transport plying from Shopiam to Manloo due to which reaching the district hospital proves a hectic process.
“Our village has been listed as model village only on papers as we lack every facility here even authorities have failed to provide us primary health care,” Summy Jan, a local said, adding that “our village has a population of over four thousand souls and we have a single roomed sub-centre that too without apt staffers, thereby forcing the locals to visit district hospital Shopian.”
“Even for headache and minor injuries, we have to visit other hospitals as the sub centre lacks all basic facilities and how can a single staffer at sub-centre cater to hundreds of souls,” she said.
The locals said that their village where most of the people are poor has been ignored by successive governments despite promises by the successive regimes during election time.
They urged the concerned authorities to look into the matter at an earliest.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Shopian, Abdul Rashid Najar said that new building for sub- centre is under construction under National Health Mission Project.
He said that “to upgrade Sub-Centre to PHC, we require about over Rs 5 lakh for which, I have already submitted a report to higher authorities.”
