‘Kommune’-wishes to reintroduce Kashmir to the art of storytelling
Kommune—the storyteller, a Mumbai based organization is going to organize a storytelling workshop at Winterfell café, Boulevard Road on Aug 20 from 4 PM- 6 PM, where the participants will be provided with the platform to tell their stories and will be equipped with the skills of ‘how the story is to be narrated’.
The event is divided into two sections:, a workshop, which will be followed by another session, where the participants will narrate their stories.
While taking to Kashmir Vision, Shamir Reuben said that they have been waiting for long to come to Kashmir and organize a program here, “given the scenic beauty and the hospitality of the people of Kashmir, we have been waiting to organize such an event here, and now we finally are here.”
According to the organizers, the event will be a chance to come to know Kashmir and people living here.
“Kashmir has already got a strong base of art and culture, like Dastan Goie, we are here to get closer to this base,” Shamir said.
“Kommune is a collective of artists, producers, patrons, collaborators and art lovers who want to discover and nurture creative performance art ideas. Our sole aim is to bring to you the best in live performance art, created and performed by none other than the best in the business. Be it the heart-warming power of storytelling, the mesmerising capabilities of poetry, the enchanting charms of theatre; we’re constantly on the look out to hunt for the next idea that will leave you mesmerised,” reads Kommune website.
When asked, given the political scenario in Kashmir, how is Kommune going to accommodate such tales that are closely linked to the political upheaval, Shamir said that such stories cannot be eliminated, as they are part and parcel of common Kashmiri’s, “this is actually our aim to take with us the original narrative, the narrative that a common person carries with him,” he said.
The event is aimed to guide the participants on: how the story is to be narrated—in what direction to think—and why is there a need to tell the story.
“It is not always necessary to give out a message in one’s story, it is actually the narration from a common man on what is happening around him and how is it happening,” said Shamir.
The organizers are expecting to take away with them rich and huge collection of stories from Kashmir, and are determined to make the untold voices heard in mainland India.
