Encounter in Chadoora leaves two militants dead
Two militants were killed in a brief encounter that raged between forces and militants in Hayatpora village of Chadoora area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Saturday.
Defense spokesman, Colonial Rajesh Kalia said that two militants were killed in an encounter that seethed in Budgam district today.
Sources said that two militants were trapped inside the village which was cordoned off by the forces during which the militants fired some gunshots, triggering a gunfight in the village.
They said that the militants who were killed in the village belong to Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).
The police had identified the slain militants as Younis Maqbool Ganie of Patrigam Budgam and Abu Ali, a non-local. The police said that Younis had joined militant ranks some time ago.
Pertinently, before the elections three youth were killed in an encounter between government forces and militants. The killings of militants had drawn protest due to which marginal voting was witnessed in the elections on Srinagar parliamentary seat. A local militant of South Kashmir was also killed in the gunfight.
Forces had to blow up a house on March 28 in which the militant was holed in. The near 10 hour gun battle had ended with the killing of one militant and injuries to a soldier.
Meanwhile, after the gunfight fight today heavy clashes were witnessed between youth and government forces, but no loss of life was reported. Clashes continued between forces and youth in Chadoora late into the night and as soon as the news of the encounter leaked out markets wore a deserted look while the traffic movement in the area was also thin.
