Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Vice President and MLC Gulam Nabi Monga on Tuesday expressed surprise over the statement made by Governor Satya Pal Malik, saying that ongoing ULB elections has lost the credibility, as that BJP-RSS has already decided as to who would be the Mayor in Srinagar.

Monga was reacting to the assertions of Governor S. P. Malik with regard to the appointment of Mayor for Srinagar Municipal Corporation, in which he has hinted that foreign educated person would be the Mayor.

He also hit out at the Governor for failing to uphold the constitutional authority of the Raj Bhavan, saying that Governor being the Constitutional head of the State should not play in the hands of BJP-RSS.

In a statement issued here, Monga said it was surprising to see that such irresponsible statement has come from none other than the Governor of the State and sought clarity from Malik over his assertions, as that, the Statement is going to cause severe damages to electoral exercise currently underway in the State.

“Congress Party believes that the BJP RSS has decide as to who would be the Mayor of Srinagar SMC and the Governor has been assigned the task to complete the process before the outcome of the ULB Elections,” he said.

He said that BJP-RSS is trying to make Raj Bhavan as a tool to decide the fate of democratic institutions, but the Congress party will defeat their designs, saying that Governor must clarify his position.
