Refrain from taking law into your hands, Mir advises people
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief, G A Mir on Saturday appealed people to not attempt taking law into their own hands while dealing with any suspected braid chopper.
“Thrashing and beating of innocents is giving bad impression to the people,” he said.
He also rued the Police claims wherein they had said that the victims and their families are not cooperating properly.
“The people shouldn’t take law and order into their hands. Any suspicious person should be handed over to Police so that they can investigate his involvement properly,” he said, adding that it gives a bad impression to the public when the people take law and order into their hands.
Ruing the Police claims about the lack of cooperation by the victims and their families, Mir said, “Police is following the instructions of their bosses. They are doing what they are being instructed to do. How can we expect that a victim who is under shock can go to the Police Station to record her statement? Why don’t the Police team meet the victim to record her statement at their homes?”
“I personally met a victim who is class 8th student. Three persons including two women as per the eye-witnesses had entered into her house in a broad daylight. The victim who is excellent in studies has struggled for at least 15 minutes but she has failed to save herself and the braid choppers chopped off her braid. Did they meet the victim,” he questioned.
“Police is asking the womenfolk to cooperate with them. Is Police machinery very poor that they can’t even meet the victims to record their statements, he questioned.
He also thanked media for playing their role in highlighting the braid chopping incidents. “I am thankful to media who visualized several cases through their cameras. The victim statements that came in media so far indicated that some agency is behind the braid chopping incidents,” he said.
