Police bust gambling racket in Sopore, three held
Srinagar: Police in Sopore has busted a gambling racket operating in the orchards of Bunpora, Dangerpora, a police spokesman said Thursday.
He said that police Post Warpora received credible information regarding gambling activities in the orchards at Bunpora, Dangerpora. Acting promptly, a police team raided the spot and apprehended Mehraj-ud-Din Dar son of Ghulam Nabi Dar resident of Dangerpora. During the raid, cash amounting to ₹4,020 and playing cards were recovered and seized. Accordingly, FIR No. 162/2026 under Section 13 of the Gambling Act was registered at Police Station Sopore, and investigation was taken up.
During the course of investigation, two more accused involved in the gambling racket were identified and arrested. They have been identified as Zahoor Ahmad Pandit son of Mohammad Maqbool Pandit resident of Dangerpora and Showkat Ahmad Parra son of Mohammad Maqbool Parra resident of Adipora. One more accused has been identified and efforts are underway to secure his arrest, the spokesman added.
