GDC Ganderbal organizes annual College Road Race
Srinagar: The Department of Physical Education and Sports of Government Degree College (GDC) Ganderbal, successfully organized the Annual College Road Race for boys and girls under the theme “Nasha Mukt Bharat” on Monday. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 80 students, including NSS volunteers, NCC volunteers, and students from various academic departments of the college.
The road race was aimed at promoting physical fitness, healthy living, and creating awareness about the importance of a drug-free society. Participants displayed remarkable endurance, discipline, and sportsmanship throughout the event, a statement issued by the college administration said.
In the girl’s category, Insha Fayaz of 4th semester secured the 1st position, followed by Uzma Khurshid of 4th Semester in 2nd position and Reeba Jan of 2nd Semester in 3rd position. In the boy’s Category, Aaquib Ahmad Ganie of 6th Semester secured the 1st position, Zahid Maqbool Khan of 1st Semester secured the 2nd position, while Fajid Ahmad Bijard of 2nd Semester secured the 3rd position.
To encourage sporting excellence, medals were awarded to students securing 1st to 10th positions in both categories. The winners securing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions were also presented with trophies, certificates, and cash prizes, while participants securing 6th to 10th positions were awarded medals and certificates.
Principal of the College, Prof. Fouzia Fatima, congratulated the winners and appreciated all participants for their enthusiastic involvement. She commended the efforts of the Department of Physical Education and Sports and appreciated the dedication and hard work of the Director of Physical Education and Sports, Dr. Ravinder Kour, Convener Sports Committee, Dr. Shabana Aslam, APTI Deedar Singh, and other staff members of the Sports Department for the successful organization of the event. She emphasized the role of sports in fostering discipline, fitness, and awareness against drug abuse among youth.
The programme was moderated by Dr. Ulfat, Head, Department of Psychology, while the vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Jamsheeda, Head, Department of Urdu and NSS Officer. The event concluded with the distribution of prizes and certificates among the winners and a renewed commitment towards promoting the message of a healthy and drug-free society under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
