Police arrests drug peddler in Anantnag, Handwara

Srinagar: Police in Anantnag and Handwara achieved another success by arresting two drug peddlers, a police spokesman said Friday.
He said that a drug peddler was arrested in the Bijbehara area and contraband substance was recovered from his possession.
During a routine police operation conducted during the night, Police apprehended one individual identified as Tariq Ahmad Dass son of Mohammad Rafiq Dass, resident of Dasspora Waghama, at Waghama. During his search, approximately 110 grams of a charas powder was recovered from his possession.
Accordingly, a case FIR No. 172/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Bijbehara, and investigation into the matter has been taken up.
Police in Handwara achieved another significant success by apprehending a drug peddler during a high-alert naka operation at Shahlal Crossing Handwara.
Acting vigilantly during routine checking, police at Handwara observed a suspicious individual attempting to flee from the spot after noticing the naka party. Demonstrating prompt response and operational alertness, the police personnel swiftly chased and intercepted the suspect. During the subsequent personal search, officers recovered Charas like substance from his possession, exposing his involvement in illegal narcotics trafficking. The accused has been identified as Tawseef Ahmad Ganie son of Abdul Gani Ganie resident of Nelipora Magam, the spokesman added .
In this regard, FIR No. 159/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Handwara, and investigation has been set into motion to unearth further links in the narcotics network, he said.
