CRPF DG reviews security arrangements for the pilgrimage

Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday reviewed preparations for the upcoming Shri Amarnathji Yatra, scheduled to begin on July 3.

“Today, chaired a high-level review meeting on preparations for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 and directed all departments and security agencies to ensure timely completion of arrangements from infrastructure and security to healthcare, sanitation, connectivity, and pilgrim services,” Sinha said in a post on X.

Several preparatory meetings have already been held at the district and base camp levels in Jammu, Anantnag and Ganderbal districts to ensure the smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage, officials said.

The yatra will begin on July 3 and conclude on August 28, Sinha said.

“Our collective goal is to ensure a safe, seamless, and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage for every devotee of Baba Barfani,” he added.

Meanwhile, CRPF Director General G P Singh reviewed the force’s operational preparedness for the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra and stressed the need for seamless coordination among all agencies to ensure a safe pilgrimage, officials said.

Singh, who is on a three-day visit to the Kashmir Valley, also chaired a meeting attended by senior officers of the CRPF, civil administration, Jammu and Kashmir Police and other agencies involved in securing the annual pilgrimage in the south Kashmir Himalayas.

“DG CRPF reviewed the operational preparedness of the force in view of the forthcoming Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2026,” Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) spokesperson Chote Lal said here.

The CRPF chief reviewed security and logistical arrangements along the yatra route up to the Baltal base camp and emphasised the importance of maintaining a robust security grid through close coordination among all the stakeholders.

Singh said inter-agency coordination must be strengthened to ensure a safe and incident-free pilgrimage.

At the Baltal base camp, he was briefed on the security grid, access control measures and logistics preparedness to ensure foolproof safety arrangements and smooth coordination among the agencies involved.

He also conducted a field visit to the CRPF battalion headquarters at Gund in Ganderbal district.

The 57-day Amarnath yatra will begin on July 3 via the twin routes — the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam track in Anantnag district and the shorter but steeper 14-km Baltal track in Ganderbal district — and conclude on August 28, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan.
