JK to continue hosting major sports events to promote tourism, youth participation: Nasir Aslam
Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir will continue to host major sporting events across the Union Territory to promote tourism and encourage greater participation of youth in sports, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani said on Wednesday.
Speaking on the sidelines of a cyclothon event here, Wani said the government has been organising a series of sporting activities and plans to hold more such events in the coming months.
“We are trying to promote sports activities in Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier, there was a golf event and before that we organised a marathon. Now we are conducting a cyclothon,” Wani said.
He said a cyclothon would also be organised in Jammu, while another similar event is planned in Kashmir in September.
“Through these activities, we want to promote sports among the youth. For us, these events are also a means of promoting tourism as participants come from different parts of the country,” he said.
Wani said sports events have become a regular feature in Jammu and Kashmir, with different departments and organisations working together to organise them.
“Whether it is the Sports Council, the Tourism Department or other institutions, there is a yearly calendar of sports events. More such major events will be announced in advance and held on a regular basis,” he said. (KNS)
