18 killed in fire in south Delhi restaurant
New Delhi, Jun 3 (PTI) At least 18 people, including some foreign nationals, were killed and several injured when a massive fire broke out in a restaurant in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar on Wednesday, officials said.
More than 37 people were rescued and rushed to hospital where 18 were declared brought dead, they said. Several of those killed are from Central Asia and Africa.
The fire broke out in the Lemon Green Restaurant and quickly spread to a nearby eatery, they said.
According to a Delhi Fire Service official, rescue workers entered the basement of the building in the congested area and rescued at least three people trapped.
There are fears that the death toll might rise further.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Further details are awaited.
