Bandipora, May 25: Lauding the unity in Kashmir over the last 45 days Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday said a powerful movement has emerged to completely eradicate the curse of drug addiction from the Union Territory, as he announced that over 950 drug peddlers have been arrested and more than 100 “narco-palaces” attached.

Addressing a massive public gathering at the Bandipora stadium, LG Sinha said the campaign against corruption and narco-terrorism, which he began 49 days ago, has transformed into a people’s promise.

“When I was leaving, I was getting calls from many people saying the weather has become very bad and I am unable to go. You all have come in such large numbers. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart,” the LG said.

He thanked all sections of society, including religious leaders, the business community, educators, mothers, and youth. “In the last 45 days, I have seen a new unity in Kashmir. This is a strong intention to eradicate the curses of addiction from this land,” LG Sinha asserted.

The LG said Jammu and Kashmir Police is actively pursuing every drug dealer and sleeper cell. “Today, the police are chasing every drug dealer, every trader, and every person trying to poison our people,” he added.

Providing data, LG Sinha said 860 FIRs have been registered, over 950 drug smugglers and peddlers jailed, and 59 arrested under the PIT-NDPS Act in the last 45 days. He added that 101 narco-palaces have been attached, 457 driving licenses suspended, and passports of 116 smugglers recommended for cancellation. Registration of 606 cars has also been advised to be cancelled.

The LG said over 7,000 women’s committees and 3,000 youth clubs are now assisting administration and police in surveillance and rehabilitation. “Those who make a profit from the destruction of others will not find a safe place anywhere in Jammu and Kashmir,” he warned. (KNS)
