Srinagar: In a striking sign of changing travel patterns, nearly 15,000 passengers have boarded the Vande Bharat Express in Jammu and Kashmir over the past three days, highlighting the growing popularity of the modern rail service among both tourists and residents.
With its swift pace, punctuality, and smooth ride, the train is steadily replacing long, exhausting road journeys through the region’s challenging terrain. Railway officials described the response as “overwhelming,” noting consistently high occupancy and strong demand. “This is more than just a transport service—it is redefining how people travel in Jammu & Kashmir,” a senior official said.
Beyond speed and convenience, passengers are equally impressed by the on-board experience. The train offers airline-style seating, ample legroom, large panoramic windows, and a clean, well-lit environment that enhances comfort throughout the journey. Automatic doors, GPS-based passenger information systems, and bio-vacuum toilets add to the modern feel, making travel not just faster but significantly more pleasant.
Food and catering services have also drawn appreciation. Passengers are served freshly prepared meals and snacks during the journey, with options ranging from light refreshments to full-course offerings. “The food was hygienic and served on time. It felt like a premium travel experience,” said Rahul Mehta, a tourist from Mumbai. “You don’t feel the stress of travelling at all.”
For many, the journey itself has become part of the experience. Tourists say the large windows offer uninterrupted views of Kashmir’s landscapes, allowing them to enjoy the scenery in comfort. “It was relaxing and scenic at the same time. We could actually enjoy the beauty without worrying about road fatigue,” said Riya Sharma, a visitor from Delhi.
Local commuters, too, are feeling the difference. Students, traders, and professionals say the train has brought predictability and ease into their routines. “Earlier, travel depended on traffic and weather. Now it’s reliable and comfortable,” said Aamir Hussain, a frequent traveller.
The improved connectivity is also beginning to boost the local economy. Tourism stakeholders report increased inflow, while small businesses are seeing a rise in activity. Hoteliers say easier access is encouraging longer stays, while transport operators note a steady uptick in demand.
Horticulture growers believe the rail network could be a game-changer for transporting perishable produce. Faster travel means reduced spoilage and better access to markets beyond the region.
Officials say the train is not just about infrastructure but about integration and growth. “It is connecting people and opportunities. The impact will only deepen in the coming months,” the official added.
As momentum builds, the Vande Bharat Express is doing more than moving passengers—it is delivering comfort, reliability, and a new standard of travel, quietly transforming lives across Jammu & Kashmir.
