Srinagar: An “illegally constructed” commercial complex valued at Rs one crore belonging to an alleged drug peddler was on Saturday demolished in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, police said.
The police in Anantnag facilitated the demolition of the “illegally constructed” commercial complex comprising 15 shops, valued at approximately Rs one crore, at Waghama Bijbehara, a police spokesman said, adding that the demolished property belonged to notorious drug peddler Sajad Ahmad Rather.
An FIR under the NDPS Act is registered against him at the Yaripora police station, the spokesman said.
During verification, it surfaced that the shopping complex had been illegally constructed on government land, he said.
Acting as per the due legal process and in coordination with the concerned civil authorities, the “illegal” structure was demolished as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle the financial infrastructure of drug syndicates operating in the district, he added.
