Reviews Amarnath Yatra Arrangements

 

JAMMU: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday reviewed the security situation and preparedness for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra at a meeting here, official sources said.

The security review was held ahead of the annual ‘Darbar Move’, with the secretariat scheduled to close in the winter capital Jammu on April 30 and reopen in Srinagar on May 4.

The meeting, chaired by Sinha, was attended by senior Army, police, security, intelligence and administrative officials, including Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, sources privy to the matter said.

It focused on law and order management and coordinated security arrangements, they said.

The overall security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir was reviewed, with particular emphasis on ensuring the safe and smooth conduct of the annual Amarnath Yatra, a major pilgrimage that draws thousands of devotees every year.

According to sources, deliberations were also held on maintaining a high degree of alertness, enhancing coordination among security forces and strengthening security measures across the Union territory.

The L-G also reviewed the ongoing 100-day-long ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan’ and stressed the need for intensified action against narcotics along with sustained awareness initiatives, officials said.

The meeting was attended by Atal Dullo, Chief Secretary, Nalin Prabhat, DGP, Chandraker Bharti, Principal Secretary Home Department, S.J.M.Gillani,  Spl DG Coordination PHQ, Nitish Kumar, ADGP, CID, Dr. Mandeep Bhandari, Principal Secretary to Lieutenant Governor, M Raju, Commissioner/Secretary, Health & Medical Education Department, Sarmad Hafeez Commissioner/Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Ram Niwas Sharma, Commissioner/Secretary School Education Department,  Divisional Commissioner Jammu, IGP Jammu, DIGs, Deputy Commissioners and SSPs from Jammu Division.

During the meeting, Deputy Commissioners and SSPs apprised the Lieutenant Governor of the law and order and security scenario in their respective districts. They also gave details on the progress of 100 days campaign of the ‘Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan’ and preparations regarding the conduct of different pilgrimages in their respective districts including Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, Shri Kausar Nag Yatra and Shri Budha Amarnathji Yatra, a Lok Bhawan spokesman alter said in a statement.

He said that the Lieutenant Governor directed the DCs and SSPs for ensuring seamless coordination between the Police, Civil administration and the security forces. He further asked them for conducting the Block and Thana Diwas regularly for resolving the general grievances of public.

The Lieutenant Governor also directed for outcome-based efforts with whole of society approach for fighting the drug menace. He called for stringent action against the drug smugglers and peddlers in coordination with all the stakeholders.

The Lieutenant Governor emphasized identifying narco-corridors in Jammu Division to dismantle hotspots and networks operating in those areas completely. He also stressed the need to conduct a study on region-wise substance abuse trends and a Vulnerability Index, using WHO’s standard methodology.

With respect to the arrangements of Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2026 and other upcoming pilgrimages in Jammu division, the Lieutenant Governor directed the DCs and SSPs to conduct a comprehensive review in their respective districts.

The Lieutenant Governor further directed the DCs to drive seamless execution of the Vibrant Villages Programme to deliver rural health, development, economic transformation, and social upliftment and to mandate 100% screening for non-communicable diseases.

The Lieutenant Governor issued a firm directive to fortify the security grid through unwavering coordination among all security forces, ensuring a seamless and impenetrable shield against emerging threats. He directed for the strictest possible action against individuals and OGWs harboring terrorists, vowing zero tolerance for those who shelter threats to national security.
