Srinagar to Host Mega Nasha Mukht Abhiyaan Event on Sunday
LG Manoj Sinha likely to flag off 35,000 participants
CM calls it a people’s movement against drug abuse
Srinagar: Srinagar is set to witness a massive public mobilization against drug abuse as the city gears up to host a mega Nasha Mukht Abhiyaan event on Sunday, with an expected participation of around 35,000 people.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is likely to flag off the event, which aims to spread awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse and promote a drug-free society. The programme is expected to draw students, youth, civil society members, and officials in large numbers, making it one of the biggest anti-drug campaigns held in the Valley.
In view of the large turnout, the Traffic Department has issued a detailed advisory to ensure smooth movement and minimize congestion in key areas of the city.
According to the advisory, vehicles of participants will be parked at designated locations, including Jehangir Chowk and Rajbagh, to avoid traffic bottlenecks near the main venue. Commuters have been advised to plan their travel accordingly and follow traffic guidelines issued for the day.
SSP Traffic Srinagar City Aijaz Ahmad Bhat said that elaborate arrangements have been put in place to regulate vehicular movement and prevent inconvenience to the general public.
“We have identified specific parking zones at Jehangir Chowk and Rajbagh for participants. Adequate personnel will be deployed at key junctions, and commuters are advised to cooperate with traffic police and follow the advisory to ensure smooth conduct of the event,” he said.
The Nasha Mukht Abhiyaan was formally launched by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on April 13 as a comprehensive campaign to combat the growing menace of drug abuse in Jammu and Kashmir.
The initiative focuses on awareness generation, community participation, rehabilitation of affected individuals, and strict enforcement against drug peddling. Since its launch, multiple outreach programmes, awareness drives in educational institutions, and coordinated actions by law enforcement agencies have been carried out across the Union Territory.
Officials said necessary deployments will be made across the city to manage both the event and routine traffic efficiently.
The campaign is part of a broader effort to safeguard the youth and build a healthier, addiction-free society, with authorities emphasizing that public participation remains key to its success.
