Srinagar, Apr 25: Police on Saturday attached immovable properties worth around 3.5 crore belonging to two alleged drug peddlers as part of its ongoing crackdown against narcotics trafficking, officials said.

The action was taken under Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in connection with a case registered at Police Station Sangam under relevant provisions of the law, they said.

The attached assets include two double-storey residential houses along with one kanal of land each, located in the Noorbagh area of the city, officials said.

One of the properties, valued at over 2 crore, belongs to accused Shakeel Ahmad Ganie, while the second property, estimated at around 1.5 crore, is owned by accused Farooq Ahmad Mir, they added.

Officials said the properties were identified as illegally acquired assets generated through proceeds of drug trafficking.

They said the action forms part of sustained efforts to curb the narcotics trade by not only arresting offenders but also targeting assets created through illicit means.

Police have urged the public to share information related to drug trafficking to help in building a drug-free society.

Further investigation in the case is underway, officials added. (KNS)
