Jammu, Apr 25: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday said the fight against drug abuse in Jammu and Kashmir cannot be won by law enforcement alone and requires collective societal effort, as he addressed a gathering in Samba under the ongoing 100-day anti-drug campaign.

LG Sinha said the campaign aims to make every panchayat drug-free and ensure police stations are free of drug traffickers, adding that its success will be judged by measurable outcomes such as rehabilitation, prosecution of smugglers and seizure of contraband.

“I assure citizens that we will strike hard against drug networks. Yet this fight cannot be won by law alone, it must be won within society through awareness, cooperation and collective effort,” LG Sinha said.

He said the 100-day movement would inspire future generations and demonstrate that united public action can bring change.

Addressing officials, the lieutenant governor said weekly monitoring of the campaign was necessary and called for continuous auditing of progress.

Deputy Commissioners, senior superintendents of police and other enforcement agencies should review weekly activities to ensure a comprehensive approach, from identification and counselling to treatment and rehabilitation, he said.

LG Sinha alleged that the drug problem was being fuelled from across the border to finance terrorism and destabilise society, and said strict action would be taken against those involved in narco-terror activities.

“Now is the time to confront this challenge with full strength, applying the harshest law against those who conspire against society,” he said.

The lieutenant governor said participation of communities, including parents, teachers and local groups, was key to sustaining the campaign’s momentum over the remaining days.

He also flagged off a bike rally and launched the Samba Cricket Premier League under the ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan’.
