Inclement weather: BRO, police rescue 50 stranded vehicles on Bandipora-Gurez road
Srinagar: A joint rescue operation by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and Bandipora Police evacuated around 50 stranded vehicles from the snow-hit Bandipora-Gurez road, which remained closed on Saturday following fresh snowfall, officials said.
An official said that the 85-km arterial road, linking Gurez valley to Bandipora district, witnessed accumulation of snow at several stretches, including Razdan Top, leading to multiple vehicles getting trapped.
Officials said the rescue teams carried out snow clearance and made the Razdan Top stretch temporarily motorable to evacuate vehicles carrying tourists, passengers, and essential supplies.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gurez, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad said that vehicular movement on the road shall remain suspended for the day in view of forecast for further snowfall and rainfs.
Commuters have been advised to avoid travel on the route until weather improves and the road is declared safe for traffic, he further added. (KNS)
