Waterlogging continues to plague Jammu–Aishmuqam road
Locals demand immediate drainage fix
Anantnag: Persistent waterlogging along the busy Jammu–Aishmuqam road in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district has become a source of daily distress for residents and commuters, who are once again urging authorities to take urgent corrective measures.
According to locals, several stretches of the road remain submerged for long hours, particularly after rainfall, severely hampering smooth movement of vehicles and pedestrians.
They said that despite repeated representations to the concerned departments, no concrete steps have been taken to resolve the issue.
“This problem has been lingering for years, but the authorities seem to be in no mood to act. Even a brief spell of rain turns the road into a pool of water,” said a local resident.
Commuters complained that the waterlogged patches not only slow down traffic but also pose a risk of accidents.
“Vehicles often skid or break down in the middle of the road due to accumulated causing traffic jams and inconvenience to everyone,” said another commuter.
Residents said that the worst sufferers are school-going children, elderly persons, and women, who are forced to wade through stagnant water.
“Our children go to school with wet shoes and clothes. It is not just uncomfortable but also unhygienic,” said a concerned parent.
They further alleged that the absence of a proper drainage system and poor road maintenance are the primary reasons behind the recurring problem.
“If the drainage was properly constructed and maintained, this situation would not have arisen,” a local elder said.
The residents have once again appealed to the administration and concerned departments to take immediate steps to improve drainage facilities and undertake necessary repairs to ensure a smooth and safe commute.
“We don’t want temporary fixes. A permanent solution is needed so that people don’t suffer every time it rains,” they added.
