Police attach residential property of drug peddler in Pulwama
Srinagar: Police in Pulwama attached a double storey residential house in Lalhar area of Kakapora, belonging to a convicted narcotics offender, a police spokesman said Monday.
He said that the action pertains to case FIR No. 42/2018 under section 8/22 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Kakapora. The property belongs to Abdul Hamid Bhat @ Hamid Puj son of Mohammad Ismail resident of Lalhar Kakapora, who stands convicted in the said case. The accused has already been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹1 lakh by the court of Principal District & Sessions Judge Pulwama.
During the course of investigation and subsequent legal proceedings, the property was established as being acquired through proceeds of illicit drug trade. Accordingly, the same has been attached under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, 1985, following due legal formalities. The attachment was carried out on the spot, and necessary notice has been affixed in presence of police officials and independent witnesses.
This action reflects the zero-tolerance approach of J&K Police towards drug peddling and its firm resolve to target not only offenders but also the assets generated through illegal narcotics activities, the spokesman added.
