Police arrests three gamblers in Shopian, stake money seized
Srinagar: Police in Shopian arrested three gamblers and seized stake money from their possession, a police spokesman said Thursday.
He said that during routine patrolling near Sugan Orchards Turkwangam, police party apprehended three individuals who were found indulging in gambling on the spot. The accused have been identified as Bashir Ahmad Ganie son of Ghulam Mohammad Ganie resident of Pulwama, Nisar Ahmad Seh son of Ghulam Mohammad Seh resident of Achan Pulwama, and Hilal Ahmad Ahanger son of Ghulam Qadir Ahanger resident of Malikpora Pulwama.
Officers have seized stake money amounting to ₹29,000/- and playing cards from their possession. However, one individual identified as Bilal Ahmad Sheikh resident of Tresal Pulwama managed to flee from the spot. The accused have been arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody.
Accordingly, a case FIR No. 49/2026 under Section 13 of the Gambling Act has been registered at Police Station Zainapora and further investigation is underway, the spokesman added.
