Srinagar: Police apprehended four drug peddlers in three separate incidents in Sopore and Budgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said Thursday.
He said that during naka checking at Hadipora, Rafiabad, a suspicious individual was intercepted and apprehended. Upon personal search, poppy straw-like substance was recovered and seized as per due procedure. The accused has been identified as Qamar Ali, son of Mohammad Ali Bhat, resident of Chanderkote Ramban. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 25/2026 under Section 8/15 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Dangiwacha.
Moreover, during naka checking at Tragpora–Rohama Road, two suspicious persons were intercepted and apprehended. Upon their search, charas-like substance was recovered and seized as per due procedure. The accused have been identified as Mursaleen Shafi, son of Mohammad Shafi Yatoo and Ali Mohammad Yatoo, son of Ghulam Mohammad Yatoo, both residents of Chijhama Rafiabad. In this regard, FIR No. 26/2026 under Sections 8/20 and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Dangiwacha. Further investigation in both cases is underway to ascertain the source and wider linkages involved, the spokesman added.
He said that later police arrested a drug peddler in the Beerwah area of Budgam and recovered contraband substances from his possession.
A police team intercepted and apprehended a suspicious person. During search, ground ganja-like substance weighing approximately 1 kg 233 grams, along with a charas-like substance in stick form wrapped in corn husk weighing about 22 grams, were recovered from his possession. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 57/2026 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Beerwah, and further investigation is underway. The accused has been identified as Gulzar Ahmad Mir, son of Ali Mohammad Mir, resident of Utligam Beerwah, the spokesman added.
