JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday informed the Legislative Assembly that the Smart City Mission (SCM) remains incomplete in the Union Territory, with funds totaling over Rs 60 crore lying unutilized across the two capital cities.
In a written reply to a question raised by National Conference legislator Ali Mohammad. Sagar, the Chief Minister, who holds the charge of the Housing and Urban Development Department, acknowledged that certain centrally sponsored schemes, including the flagship urban development project, have not been fully implemented.
As per the details furnished by the government, Jammu city was sanctioned Rs 980 crore, of which Rs 921 crore was utilized, leaving a balance of Rs 59 crore. Srinagar city utilized Rs 902.78 crore against a release of Rs 903.90 crore.
The reply attributed the incomplete implementation to administrative reasons, though it did not elaborate on the specific bottlenecks. The revelation comes amid mounting concerns over the pace of urban infrastructure development in the Union Territory, which has been seeking to enhance civic amenities under the central scheme.
No timeline for the completion of the pending works was provided in the government’s response. (KNS)
