Celebrate Eid with a changed mind
Muslims across the globe are celebrating the festival of Eid. This festival celebrated after a month long fasting has many lessons for the Ummah, especially during these testing times.
Eid al-Fitr is very significant in Islam as it marks the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting and spiritual growth. It’s a time for the Muslims to understand their inner being and reflect on their personal growth and seeking forgiveness for the wrongs they might have committed over the period of time.
This festival also makes us to understand the concept of giving-as offering Zakat, (charity) to support those in need is emphasised among the Muslims. Eid and the month of Ramadhan ahead of it teach us the concept of community feeling and responding to the community around us.
The month of Ramadhan makes us understand the social needs and nourishing the social commitments we have towards each other. A special thrust is laid on gatherings with family, friends, and those close to you.
The concept of sharing meals during the Sehri and iItaar, helps and inculcates in us a feeling of sharing and caring for each other. This concept of social interactions and mixing with each other helps us to understand the community in a batter way and also makes us understand the needs our community may have.
This Eid while we engage ourselves in offering gratitude for completing Ramadan’s fasts we should also remember those who do not have the luxury of enjoying all the gifts and joyful moments which we share with our loved ones.
As we seek forgiveness (Maghfirah) and ask for pardon we should also remember those with whom we have acted tough and made them suffer in one or the other way. While we seek forgiveness for ourselves this festival of Eid should make us realise to seek forgiveness from all those whom we have hurt with our harsh words or deeds.
This festival of Eid which is being celebrated at a time when the world is marred with hate and jealousy, we need to take a step back and introspect and realise fully as to whether we are really seeking unity among ourselves.
We need to ask ourselves that are we fully prepared to bring in the needed changes in our behaviour and treat the community as one. Are we willing to share with those who are in need?
Are we really taking austere measures and help in reaching out to those who cannot even afford a two square meal? Are we willing to let go our egos and forgive even those who have inflicted pain on us.
This Eid let us resolve to emerge as better persons. Let us resolve to leave behind all the anger and anguish and seek to make our families and community live a better and well deserved life.
Let us all celebrate this festival of Eid to achieve higher things in life, to be better persons and to make this world a better and peaceful place to live on.
