Police arrests three drug peddlers, contraband substances recovered

Srinagar: Police arrested three drug peddlers in Baramulla and Shopian and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said Tuesday.
He said that in Baramulla, a police party during naka checking at Chanpora Crossing near the Forest Range Office in Tangmarg intercepted a vehicle (Tata Sumo) bearing registration number JK09-7104 with 02 persons onboard. Upon search, 08 grams of a brown sugar-like substance was recovered from the possession of the occupants. They have been identified as Zahid Ahmad Mir son of Ghulam Hassan Mir resident of Checkthan Chanapora, Tangmarg, and Mohammad Yaseen Magray son of Mohammad Ramzan resident of Sonlipora, Tangmarg. Both accused were arrested and accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 07/2026 has been registered at Police Station Tangmarg and investigation has been initiated, the spokesman added.
In Shopian, police received a specific information regarding one individual, identified as Abdul Hamid Thoker resident of Nusipora Keegam, had allegedly concealed a large quantity of contraband substances in his cowshed.
Acting on specific information, a case FIR No. 31/2026 of NDPS Act was registered in Police Station Shopian. Subsequently, a police team from Police Post Keegam accompanied by the Executive Magistrate, raided the cowshed of Abdul Hamid Thoker resident of Nusipora Keegam. During the search, 1 kilogram and 10 grams of Cannabis and 470 grams of Charas-like substance was seized and accused arrested on spot, further investigation initiated, the spokesman said.
