Police files FIR against man in Shopian for sharing videos ‘prejudicial to public order’
Srinagar, Mar 4: Police in South Kashmir’s Shopian have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against an individual for allegedly circulating provocative content on social media platforms, officials said on Wednesday.
An official said that it came to notice that one Javid Ahmad Khanday, son of Ali Mohammad Khanday, a resident of Sazan Keegam, was involved in sharing and propagating certain videos accompanied by captions and comments. The content was prima facie found to be capable of disturbing public peace and adversely affecting the law and order situation in the area.
“Accordingly, FIR No. 26/2026 has been registered at Police Station Shopian (Police Post Keegam) under relevant provisions of law, and an investigation has been initiated,” the official said.
The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and public order. The general public has been advised to exercise responsibility and restraint while using social media platforms and to refrain from posting or sharing any content that may disturb public tranquillity, the official added.
He said that any violation shall be dealt with strictly in accordance with law.
